Overview
Enquiry based learning is all about learner’s taking a large part of the responsibility for their own learning themselves. However, in order that learners are able to reap the benefits of this approach they need to be fully briefed on the overall expectations. The expectations are likely to focus not only on specific outcomes but also on the processes the learner adopts. Used effectively enquiry based learning can equip learners with a range of applied skills and competencies that would otherwise be difficult to achieve. This course explores ways in which this approach can be used effectively.

By attending this course participants will be able to investigate the key strengths of EBL and gain a clear insight into the fundamental concepts involved. Participants will be given the opportunity to review a range of both commercially produced resources and resources produced locally with limited budget. Participants will also get the opportunity to produce sample resources tailored to meet their own learner’s needs. The knowledge and competencies gained on the course will enable teachers / educators to ensure increased engagement and enjoyment by their learners in the overall learning experience.

Indicative course content:
The roots of enquiry based learning (EBL); competing theories; EBL within the context of student-centred and active learning; case studies and problem solving; creating realistic and relevant resources for EBL; strengths and limitations of EBL; analysis and review of a range of EBL resources.
Upon completion of the course participants will be expected to:
• make informed decisions about a range of EBL applications
• Identify the strengths and limitations of a range of EBL resources
• Create and apply a range of EBL resources to meet specific learning outcomes
Sessions will have a strong active participation component with facilitators keen to ensure that the experience will be fun and enjoyable as well as educational.The facilitator has wide experience of delivering this and related courses to clients both in the UK and internationally across Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
